Research Experience

Research work in National University of Singapore, Singapore

Research work in Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai, China

Research work in Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China

Graduate level (NUS):

1. Energy System Modeling

2. Statistical Modeling with     Application to Industrial and Business Systems

3. Statistical Quality Control

I am currently a research scholar in National University of Singapore and am working towards a master's degree at the same time. Under the supervision of Professor Ang Beng Wah, I have taken part in some research projects involving energy and environmental studies. These projects provided further training in mathematical techniques, analytical skills and creative thinking.

Our current research interests focus on methodological and application issues about structural decomposition analysis, which is a useful tool for quantifying factors underlying the observed changes in energy and environmental indicators.  Major research tools include statistical modeling using economic index theory, plus some software like Excel, SPSS and Matlab etc. We have proposed a new decomposition method based on Sato-Vartia Divisia index, which has proved to be superior to existing methods [1]. A framework of perfect decomposition formulae has been presented in [4]. Another finding is that the decomposition analysis can be applied to cross-country comparison [2]. As a general model, the decomposition methodology has been found suitable for production process control and inventory turnover management [3]. A literature survey, which formed one chapter in my thesis, has also been presented in a paper for publication [5].

I would also like to mention my experience on attending an international academic conference. Owing to my former studies in Management School, I was able to extend the application of decomposition analysis to business administration [6]. The paper has been published at the 3rd International Conference on Management, where I delivered a presentation on that specific topic. The audience, including researchers as well as managers from financial institutes, were quite interested in my research results. Their warm reaction made me really exited and become determined to pursue future success in academic career.

Here I also minor in Statistical Quality Control and have a working paper titled "Capability Study for Aggregate Production Processes :  a defective rate approach" [7].

Graduate level ( SJTU):

1. Corporate Finance

2. Mergers and Acquisitions in China

I majored in financial management in Management School. With the advice of my supervisor Professor Zhang Guohua (Vice President of  China Europe International Business School, also former Deputy Dean of Management School, SJTU), I chose Mergers and Acquisitions in China as my tentative thesis content. I am always sure this will become the hottest topic in China's economic reform in the near future.
Undergraduate (XJTU):

1. Automatic Control of Electric Power System

My undergraduate research lied on application of automatic control theory to electric power systems. My graduation thesis [8],  which was done under the instruction of Professor Niao Peijin, was concerning stabilizing the voltage and current in electrical power systems using Kalman filtering technique. The project was awarded "Excellent Project" by the Department Committee.
